The free plan is free permanently, not a trial that runs out. It has four monthly or standing limits, it stores your documents for you, and this page says exactly how each limit is counted. Your live figures are always on Settings → Usage.
The limits
- 5 completed documents a month. A document counts the first time any signer completes it. A two-signer document counts once, when the first of them finishes.
- 15 documents sent a month. Every document created for signature is a send, however it was started — the recipients form, a share link, "sign it yourself" or a correction.
- 10 documents out for signature at once. A live count, not a monthly one: it goes down again as soon as a document completes, is declined, expires or is deleted.
- 1 user. Inviting a second person needs the paid plan — see Teams and seats.
- Document storage, included. We keep your uploads, templates, signed documents and logo for you, subject to fair use. The paid plan stores more for every seat.
Free accounts also carry an EsignCenter footer on the emails we send for you and on the pages your signers sign on. Everything else about signing — the sealed PDF, the audit trail, public verification, Word uploads, signing order, decline and delegate, email verification for signers — is the same on both plans.
What happens when you reach one
Nothing is deleted and nothing is lost. New documents cannot be started until the month resets, and a share link answers visitors with a polite "not accepting responses right now". Documents already out for signature always finish: reaching a limit never strands somebody halfway through signing, and that completion is still recorded. Downloads and exports keep working.
We email your account's administrators once when you reach 4 of 5 completions, so the ceiling is never a surprise.
Resets, storage and upgrades
The monthly counts run on the UTC calendar month and reset by themselves at midnight UTC on the first. There is nothing to press.
Storage never stops you sending or signing. If an account gets close to the fair-use limit, we email its administrators first; only if it reaches the limit do new uploads pause. To free space, delete what you no longer need and then delete permanently from the archive; the ordinary delete only archives, and archived files still count.
Upgrading lifts the document limits at once. If you later drop back to the free plan, your free month starts the moment the paid plan ends: you begin at 0 of 5 completions and 0 of 15 sends, and nothing is deleted. See Billing and your free trial and the pricing page.
