You do not need an EsignCenter account to sign something. Somebody sent you a document, and this page describes exactly what you will see, in order.
Opening your document
- Open the email invitation and choose the button in it, or open the link you were given. The link is yours alone.
- If the sender asked for email verification, we email you a one-time code first. Type it in and you are through. It is there so that only the person holding your inbox can open the document.
- The document opens in your browser — phone, tablet or computer, nothing to install.
Filling it in
The fields the sender placed for you are highlighted, and the page walks you from one to the next. Depending on the document you may type text, pick a date, tick a box, choose from a list, attach a file, or draw, type or upload your signature and initials. Anything marked required has to be filled in before you can finish.
Agreeing to sign electronically
Above the buttons is a checkbox: I agree to use electronic records and signatures. You cannot complete the document until it is ticked, and two things sit beside it.
- View this document as a PDF opens the unsigned original in a new tab. Using it is optional, but it is a quick way to check that your device can open, save or print a PDF — ticking the box confirms that it can.
- Electronic Signature Disclosure opens the full notice: who sent this document and the email address that reaches them, what you need to read and keep a copy, how to ask for a paper copy and who may charge for it, how to change the address your documents go to, and what we record.
Your agreement is recorded once, with the date and time, your network address, the language you read the notice in and a fingerprint of the exact wording, and it is printed in the audit trail. You are not asked again on later steps.
If you should not be the one signing
Where the sender has allowed it, two buttons are offered. Decline stops the document and lets you send the sender a reason. Delegate hands the document to somebody else by email — they get a fresh link, and because they are a different person they tick the consent box for themselves.
After you sign
You can download your copy straight away, and we email it to you when everybody has finished. The finished PDF is digitally sealed and timestamped, with an audit trail attached. Keep it: anyone can later check it on our verify page, which is covered in Verify a signed document.
Questions about the contents of the document belong with whoever sent it. Problems with the page itself belong with us.
